Website Design & Development

Websites and redesigns that explain what you do, earn trust quickly, and make it easy for customers to get in touch, on any device.

Three HMTZ Lab concept websites for fictional businesses on a monitor, a laptop, and phones: a dark corporate site for Meridian Facilities, an editorial architecture studio site for Vale & Ortiz, and a small electrical business site for Brightwire on a phone.

A website planned around what your visitors need

Most visitors arrive wanting three things: to understand what you offer, to decide whether you are credible, and to contact you. A good website makes each step obvious. We plan the pages, structure, and content around those goals before any design work starts.

We build custom-coded websites with modern tools such as React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, and choose a lighter approach when a framework is not needed.

HMTZ Tech works with businesses in Minneapolis, the Twin Cities, and beyond. We offer remote and phone consultations, with in-person meetings available in Minnesota at your office or another convenient location by arrangement.

Problems a better website can solve

If any of these sound familiar, it is usually time to talk.

  • Outdated website

The site no longer reflects the quality of your work, or still lists services you have stopped offering.

  • Poor mobile experience

Text is hard to read, buttons are hard to tap, and pages are slow on a phone.

  • Unclear services

Visitors cannot quickly tell what you do, who it is for, or how to get started.

  • Difficult navigation

Important pages are buried, so people leave before they find them.

  • Weak inquiry journey

Contact details are hard to find, and forms ask for too much, or too little.

  • Hard to update

Every small change needs a developer, so the content falls behind.

Websites for different needs

Three examples of how website projects differ in complexity. They describe levels of scope, not packages; package names, prices, and inclusions are listed further down and on the Pricing page.

Small websites

Professional, responsive websites with the essential pages, clear service information, and straightforward contact options.

Illustrative features

  • A focused set of essential pages
  • Clear service and area information
  • A quote or contact form
  • Designed for phones first

How it can vary. Complexity grows with the number of pages, how much content needs writing, and whether a form needs to send information anywhere other than email.

Business websites

More substantial websites with multiple pages, structured content, stronger navigation, richer functionality, and business-specific requirements.

Illustrative features

  • Service, sector, and location pages
  • Navigation planned for larger content
  • Several forms routed to the right people
  • Content you can update, where included

How it can vary. Scope depends on the content structure, the number of page templates, how many forms and workflows are involved, and any content management needs.

Advanced websites

More sophisticated websites with custom functionality, integrations, interactive experiences, and additional technical requirements.

Illustrative features

  • Filterable project or product listings
  • Custom interactive sections
  • Connections to business systems
  • Advanced content management

How it can vary. Advanced work is scoped after discovery. Integrations, custom functionality, and performance or accessibility targets each add requirements that are confirmed in the proposal.

Custom website features

Functionality that can be scoped into a website project. Each feature depends on discovery, your requirements, and the agreed scope, and none is included in every package.

  • Inquiry and contact forms

Forms that ask the right questions and send each inquiry to the right person.

  • Booking workflows

Appointment or booking requests with available times and confirmations.

  • Content management

Edit pages, news, and listings yourself, with drafts and publishing.

  • Customer-facing interactions

Quote builders, account areas, document downloads, or guided steps.

  • Business system integrations

Send form entries to a CRM, booking tool, or other approved system that offers a supported connection.

  • Custom interactive sections

Filterable listings, maps, comparisons, and other sections built for your content.

What shapes scope and complexity

Every website is priced from its requirements. These are the factors we review with you before a proposal.

  • Pages and structure

How many pages and page types are needed, and how the content is organized.

  • Design depth

A proven layout system adapted to your brand, or a more tailored design.

  • Features and forms

Forms, booking, listings, and any interactive sections.

  • Integrations

Whether the site connects to other systems, and what those systems allow.

  • Content management

Whether your team needs to edit content, and how much.

  • Content readiness

Whether text and photographs are ready, or need writing or sourcing.

From inquiry to launch

Website projects follow the same stages as every HMTZ Tech project, with reviews at each step.

  1. Inquiry

You tell us about the organization, the current site, and what needs to change.

  2. Discovery and proposal

We agree the goals, audience, and pages, then confirm the scope, price, and schedule in writing.

  3. Design

We lay out the structure and key pages, and refine them with your feedback.

  4. Build

We develop responsive pages, forms, technical SEO, and, where included, content management.

  5. Review and testing

We check every page on phones, tablets, and desktops, in current browsers, and for common accessibility issues.

  6. Launch

The site goes live on your domain after your final review.

What to prepare

  • Information about your services, customers, and locations
  • Your logo, colors, and any brand guidelines
  • Text and photographs, or our copywriting or photography add-ons
  • Access to your current website, domain, or hosting where relevant
  • Feedback and approvals at each review stage

What is delivered

The pages, features, and handover arrangements are set out in your project agreement, based on the package you choose. Ownership and licensing are defined there too.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about website design & development.

Do you build websites with WordPress?

HMTZ Tech primarily builds custom-coded websites. If you need to edit content yourself, a content management system can be connected, and any subscription fees are explained before you approve the project.

Can you redesign our existing website?

Yes. Redesigns use the same package ranges as new websites, and the scope is agreed after reviewing your current site and goals.

Do you work with businesses outside Minneapolis?

Yes. HMTZ Tech is based in Minneapolis and works with organizations across Minnesota, the United States, and internationally. Most projects run remotely by email, video call, and phone.

Will a new website improve our search rankings?

Basic SEO covers technical setup such as page titles, descriptions, headings, and a sitemap. No one can honestly guarantee rankings, so HMTZ Tech does not promise them.

How many revisions are included?

Starter and Business websites include 2 revision rounds; Advanced websites include 3. Additional revision rounds can be added as a paid option.

Who owns the website when it is finished?

Ownership and licensing are defined clearly in each project agreement.

Starter websites may use a layout system. Are they still custom-coded?

Yes. We code Starter sites ourselves, and may start from a proven layout system that is adapted to your content and brand. This keeps smaller projects efficient; Business and Advanced sites get a more tailored design.
